Developing a Writing Practice
If what you want to do is write, then you need to carve out a writing practice or routine. Sounds simple, right? For some it is; for others, though, it can be more challenging.
What is a writing practice (or routine)? This will look different to different people because it depends on each person’s individual goal and what they write—as well as what they want to write.
In short, though, a writing practice is a regular space and time slotted specifically for writing and writing-related activities (e.g., reading, revision, submission). Whether you slot out this block of time on a daily or weekly basis (or other interval of time) is up to you. However you decide to do it, this routine will become a habit, and you will literally train your brain for writing—and for success!
