Latest Rejection

I received my third rejection for July yesterday, bringing me to 55 rejections for 2025 so far. I’m well on track to hit at least 100 rejections for the year (what “folk wisdom” says every writer should strive for). I’m thrilled to be published once again in Ghost Parachute; you can find my story “Put a Hat on or You’ll Catch Your Death” in the July issue.

Latest Tip and Latest Prompt

I’m also delighted to have a flash fiction writing tip featured on Vancouver Flash Fiction’s Facebook page (and duplicated here):

“When writing flash, I love to lean into weirdness and absurdity, displacing the reader, while also giving them something true, making them wonder: Did that just happen? Because that’s reality, too; life is strange and full of unexpectedness and often catches us off guard.”

And speaking of leaning into weirdness and absurdity, I was chuffed to have been invited to contribute a prompt to Kathy Fish’s Flash Extravaganza; the prompt I contributed encourages writers to dig into absurdity, to do exactly what I suggest above: displace the reader, catch them off guard.
